We design with the US, Africa and the Caribbean families in mind-to redesign, reclaim and re-introduce ourselves- becoming the global giant in design, manufacturing and distribution-creating an inclusive, progressive and profitable tomorrow for all to enjoy.
our story
Jennifer Grace Funlayo Jennings is a global thought leader, designer and business professional. She coined the term, ‘empower-nuer’ as she single handling empowered thousands of people to become the very best version of themselves. Born in Queens New York to a Nigerian immigrant and an African American Queen from Charleston South Carolina, Jennifer was influenced by a rich and powerful blend of Nigerian, South Carolinian and New York City culture and style. When she was just 9 years old, her mother relocated her and her siblings to South Carolina where she continued to allow her surroundings to inspire her in design. At 16 years old, she studied in Madrid and throughout Spain as an exchange student. There she continued to nurture her ability to design. Immediately upon her return to the US, Jennifer included her rich cultural background, fusing Nigerian and African American culture from the subways and streets of New York City to the cotton, tobacco and other farmland in South Carolina. She began designing a small collection including accessories out of her home in Myrtle Beach South Carolina-selling to friends, neighbors and local news anchors. After obtaining revenue from her collection, Jennifer opened a store front in 2008 named Grace Be Unto You. In that same year, she produced her first major runway show, The Royal Phenom Bash, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Jennifer planned and executed her vision with a staff of 75-120 including a production team, audio and visual personnel, models, recording artists, photographers, DJs, make up artist from Chanel, Christian Dior and Mac Cosmetics. Jennifer was featured in South Carolina Woman’s Magazine, NBC WMBF television station for in person interviews and numerous on air interviews with the big station 98.5 Kiss FM. She received a number of interest from celebrity artist however Jennifer wanted to stay in South Carolina to continue to cultivate her skills, teaching young people they can too grow right where they are. She later moved to New York to expand her work in design and manufacturing. She has volunteered and modeled for charitable events such as Make a Wish Foundation Runway Show.
Jennifer launched her line, Funlayo Grace, in December of 2008. Since its launch, Jennifer has served hundreds of clients through Funlayo Grace. She served as a wardrobe stylist for NBC’s hit show ‘Army Wives’, former NBA Assistant Coach Dan D’Antoni and Miss Universe Contestant. She has designed and styled teachers, business professionals, athletes and pageant winners such as Mrs. South Carolina and Grammy Nominated Recording Artist, Singer and Songwriter Mali Music. Through Jennifer’s exceptional vision and leadership, she discovered the need to merge the US, African and Caribbean markets, bridging the economic gap and being a leader in design that is geared to a more joyful tomorrow for all.
